Steve worked alongside the Honorable Judge Bruce Hendricks, a pioneer in federal drug court programs, to launch the first Collegiate Recovery Program at the College of Charleston, South Carolina. His efforts earned him MUSC's Charles Banov Humanitarian 2016 Award upon graduation from the Medical University of South Carolina for raising nearly half a million dollars to start the program.

Dr. Steve is also a founding board member of "Reconnected", a non-profit that organizes active, community events for individuals and loved ones affected by mental health challenges. He recently organized a 100 kilometer trail run from Vail to Aspen.
